ITEM TITLE: Council Nominating Committee recommendations for appointment

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Council Nominating Committee met on March 10 and 17, 2016, and recommends the
following appointments:
• Arts Commission -- working artist: Johnathan Heath Lambe
• Parks & Recreation -- youth position: Josette Gonzales
• Southeast Community Center: Donna Janovitch and Tony Williams; reappoint Rev. Robert
Trimble and Aaron Case
• Yakima Historic Preservation Commission: Whitney Stohr
• Yakima Planning Commission: Gavin Keefe and Peter Marinace

NOMINATING COMMITTEE MINUTES
March 10, 2016 -- Mayor's Office
The meeting convened at 9:50 a.m.
Council present: Bill Lover, Holly Cousens and Avina Gutierrez (alt.)
Staff: Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director Beehler
Sonya Claar Tee, City Clerk
Mr. Beehler briefed Committee members on outreach efforts related to openings on the City's
Citizens Boards & Committees. Committee members reviewed applications for vacancies on Boards
& Committees. It was Committee consensus to recommend the following appointments:
o Johnathan Heath Lambe to the Arts Commission, working artist position
o Josette Gonzales to the Parks and Recreation, Youth Commission position
o Whitney Stohr (Historic Archaeology) to the Yakima Historic Preservation
Commission
o Donna Janovitch and Tony Williams, and reappoint Rev. Robert Trimble and Aaron
Case, to the Southeast Community Center
Committee members narrowed the applicants for the Planning Commission to:
• Gavin Keefe
• Patty Dion
• Sandra Martensen
• Terry Cook
• Nicholas Arnold
• Peter Marinace
It was Committee consensus to review the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee applications at their
next Committee meeting and to have Finance Director Epperson attend that portion of the meeting.
The Committee discussed the reappointment process and it was their consensus to have members
reapply if they would like to be reappointed.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m.

March 17, 2016 -- Mayor's Office
The meeting convened at 9:10 a.m.
Council present: Bill Lover, Holly Cousens and Avina Gutierrez (alt.) arrived 9:20
Staff: Cindy Epperson, Finance Director
Jodi Stephens, Acting City Clerk
The Committee reviewed applications and made the following recommendations:
• Yakima Planning Commission
It was Committee consensus to recommend appointment of Gavin Keefe
and Peter Marinace.
• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
Cindy Epperson briefed the Committee of the State Law requirements
governing the Lodging Tax.
It was the consensus of the Committee they would wait for an application
to be received who is a representative of a business required to collect
lodging tax.

The meeting adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
