A RESOLUTION authorizing open cruising events to be held on June 11, June 18,
July 9, August 13, September 10 and September 17 sponsored by
Apple Valley Kiwanis Club (June 18), Yakima Volkswagen Club
(September 17) and the Downtown Association of Yakima
(remaining dates).
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima ( "City ") has previously adopted ordinances
regulating cruising events, codified at Chapter 9.25 YMC; and
WHEREAS, the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club, the Downtown Association of Yakima
and Yakima Volkswagen Club have submitted an application and request to conduct a
cruising events on Yakima Avenue from 6 Street 7th Avenue, on Saturdays, June 13, June
20, July 11, August 8 and September 12, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to
be open to the public and subject to the special event provisions of Chapter 9 70 YMC; and
WHEREAS, YMC 9.25 020 provides that the City Council may approve open cruise
events from time to time pursuant to adopted Resolution, subject to applicable provisions
of Chapter 9.70 YMC pertaining to special events, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that approval of the proposed
open cruising events to be held June 11, June 18, July 9, August 13, September 10 and
September 17 as described above, is in the best interests of residents of the City of Yakima
and will promote the general health, safety and welfare; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The open cruising events requested by the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club, Downtown
Association of Yakima and Yakima Volkswagen Club to be held between 6 00 p.m and
10 00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, June 18, July 9, August 13, September 10 and September
17 on Yakima Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Avenue, is hereby approved, subject to
and conditioned upon the applicant's compliance with all applicable provisions of Chapter
9 70 YMC pertaining to special events, now, therefore
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 15t day o March, 2016

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Downtown Association of Yakima, the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club, and Yakima Volkswagen
Club have requested the City Council allow open cruising on six nights in the 2016 summer
season. Open cruising will be allowed from 6 -10 p.m. each of the Cruise Nights. Each
applicant has agreed to pay half of the Yakima Police Department overtime costs associated with
the event (typically $250 per cruise night) and submit a Certificate of Insurance. In 2015, the
Cruise Nights welcomed huge crowds to Yakima Avenue with all ages and walks of life
represented.
