Re: Request to Remove Weeds along 80 Avenue from Candy Turner
Removal of weeds along a street frontage is by City Code 8.76.025 the responsibility of
the adjacent property owners. In the past, the city provided the service on a limited
basis through of the use of Department of Corrections work crews. The contract with
Yakima County to provide DOC work crews ended last spring due to financial
constraints. The same financial constraints place a premium on the streets crew time
fulfilling their primary function of street preservation. Any vegetation control performed
• by the streets crew, whether spraying or removing weeds, trimming trees or other
actions, is directly related to street preservation or traffic safety. Expanding our weed
abatement program beyond those parameters will negatively impact our ability to
maintain city streets.
