For Meeting of: January 5, 2016 ITEM TITLE: Recognition of citizens Brady Sherbahn and Victor Maldonado SUBMITTED BY: Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director SUMMARY EXPLANATION: On August 14th, a woman was waiting for a bus near 26th Avenue and Tieton Drive. Three juvenile boys were also at the bus stop. Without warning, one of the boys moved toward the woman and grabbed her purse. All three boys then ran away. Brady Sherbahn was stopped on Tieton Drive waiting to turn onto 26th Avenue when he saw the robbery take place. Brady made a quick decision to help. He chased after the boys. A UPS driver, Victor Maldonado, also joined in the chase. Brady and Victor saw the boy drop the purse he had stolen. Victor returned the purse to its owner while Brady kept an eye on the boys until police arrived. Thanks to the unselfish acts of Brady and Victor, the boys were arrested and the woman got her purse back. Brady Sherbahn and Victor Maldonado are being awarded the City of Yakima Apple Award for outstanding service to the community.
