`G1 'aRMS, winter poses extreme hardship for the 19,418 homeless counted this year in
Washington State and nearly 816 inadequately housed low- income men, women, and children in
Yakima County; and
`G1 laP, S, we recognize through coordinatedeforts of local service providers and
community volunteers, the number of unsheltered homeless individuals has been reduced by 74 percent,
and overall homelessness has been reduced by 51 percent in the past ten years; and
` PREP,W, in remembering the 14 people known to have died in Yakima this year without
homes, and those unknown to us in name who have died earlier than they should because of
experiencing homelessness in their lives; and
`PWEP,W, December 21st has been designated Nationafifomefess Person's �WemoriafDay
by the Nationalloafition for the 9fomefess and the Nationafifeafth Fare for the 9fomefess Councif
and is so recognized by cities nationwide; and
` PREP,W, in this season ofgenerosity andsharing, citizens of Takima are encouraged to
commit themselves to promoting compassion andconcern foraffbrothers andsisters, especiaffy those
who are poor and homeless; and
` PREP,W, in remembering those who have died on the streets, the cause of ending
homelessness is kept urgent, as is the community's coffective commitment to preventing such deaths in
the future.
NOW,, Z.N IMEEORE, I Micah Fawley, Mayor of the City of Takima and on behalf of the
City Councif, do hereby proclaim �Wonday, December 21, 2015, as
"xomeless Persons' W emoriafDay "
in the City of Takima in recognition of the people who have died without a home, from ailments or
conditions directly related to homelessness, I hereby askaffcitizens to take a moment of silence in
remembrance andencourage our citizens to support afffocafefforts to eliminate homelessness in our
community.
