Council cDeve(crpment Committee
Wednesday, July 7, 2010
2:30 p.m.
Council Members present: Maureen Adkison, Bill Lover
Staff: Dick Zais, Michael Morales, Lare Watters
Mill District Update: Lare Wafters reported that two studies are nearing completion. These
studies will be integrated somewhat with the SEPA planned action that the property owners
are working on. Also, work continues on the DOT traffic analysis. Owner representative
Brad Hill noted that the traffic study is their number one objective and that they hope to have
the SEPA in by the end of August. He went on to say that they are having discussions with
a number of prospective tenants and they are hopeful about the progress on the
transportation issues.
The Yakima Bears presented their development options for a new multi purpose stadium.
Their next step is to ascertain by the end of this year if this project can move forward. Dick
Zais noted that the City's capacity to deal with a new project at this time is limited and
Council will have to determine priorities in regard to assigning staff time. He suggested a
study session with the City, Yakima County and business leaders. Bears owner Mike
McMurray offered to help and asked to know as soon as possible if it looks like the project is
going to stall. Councilmembers Adkison and Lover will speak to the rest of the Council
about the project.
The next meeting of the Council Economic Development Committee is scheduled for
Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 2:30 p.m.
