Trains moving through town activate changes in the artwork lighting. "Yakima Illuminations: Bins of Light" is an integrated public art feature en- compassing the future entry portals and underpasses on westbound Lincoln Avenue and eastbound Martin Luther King Boulevard. The art draws from E Ni ( l ;� _� Yakima's historic district's past and present role as the locus of fruit storage, r P p j y ` i / r packaging, and transport, using the iconic form of the fruit bin and historic F. • -•�� • K "" 1 \ crate label graphics. Using color activated by both the sun and night il- i lumination, the art will be dynamic and engaging at all times of day for both r - „....•.,,,,,.,.o•,,,,,,,,,,,,, drivers and those walking in the historic district. t ' �` • There are two portals, one on each underpass. Each art portal consists of a ! �' J stack of "fruit bins,” mimicking the stacks that characterize Front Street and J ? _ , / •••••"--'""''''' Jr • v - W.,,, •� the railroad tracks. The "bins" are abstracted into light boxes matching the scale of the the standard wooden bins used to store and transport fruit. !! 4 2 Pr.
