RE: Debbie Smith Complaint -Short term Front Lawn Parking
Ms. Smith inquired about an ordinance pertaining to the elderly and disabled. The current
Parking on Front Lawn Ordinance 2007 -31 is clear in its language. One could wash their
vehicle, work on their vehicle or pull on their lawn to load a vehicle or assist an
individual into a vehicle.
Ms. Smith's vehicle was in the Herald, but it was not a City of Yakima action. The
picture was taken by a Herald employee. The ordinance gives the code division the
ability to enforce a public nuisance in which a complaint is called in to the Code Hotline
and address a vehicle parking on a lawn for an extended period of time. Short term
parking for all of the above examples and not a violation of this ordinance.
