ITEM TITLE: An Ordinance amending the 2008 Budget and Making Appropriations in the 333 -Law & Justice Capital Fund to provide for a feasibility study for a police substation. SUBMITTED BY: Samuel Granato, Chief of Police Cindy Epperson, Deputy Director of Accounting & Budgeting CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Chief Samuel Granato 575 -6211 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: At their June 10, 2008 meeting, Council approved the execution of a contract with LCA Architects, P.A. of Boise, Idaho in the amount of $35,000 to conduct a feasibility study addressing the need and advisability of replacement of the Yakima Police Department Substation currently located at the Yakima Airport This was not contemplated during the development of the 2008 budget, therefore, the attached appropriation is proposing to use unreserved fund balance in the 333- Law and Justice Capital budget of $35,000. BOARD /COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: COUNCIL ACTION: • ORDINANCE NO. 2008 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2008 budget for the City of Yakima; and making appropriations of $35,000 within the 333 -Law & Justice Capital Fund to provide for . a feasibility study for a police substation. WHEREAS, the amount of $35,000 must be appropriated within the 333 — Law & Justice Capital Fund for expenditure during 2008 to provide for a feasibility study addressing for a police substation; and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2008 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance 'would be required; and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1: The amount of $35,000 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 333 -Law & Justice Capital Account 333- 333 -518- 0000 - 521.20 -410 titled Capital Improvement Professional Services as a 2008 appropriation to provide for a feasibility study for a police substation. • Section 2: This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter.
