SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Following a Study Session on an Emergency Medical Services
levy presentation from the Yakima Fire Department Chief, the Yakima City Council decided to
set a public hearing on July 22, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. to provide an opportunity for citizen
comments on a proposed Emergency Medical Services levy.
If approved by the voters, the levy would address current challenges facing the Yakima Fire
Department, such as critical staffing needs and improving the delivery of emergency medical
care. As proposed, the levy would enhance the current EMS levy to assist the department in
meeting these challenges.
