I too was out and didn't find much happening related to gang crime. I have attached Sgt. Hildebrand's pass on for the evening regarding a search warrant they served on a gang member's home on Folsom Ave. There were several gang members on foot early in the day. Taylor, Shaw and Salinas made many contacts and traffic stops. We completed 7 Gang FI cards. Baker and Garcia finished an op targeting a known gang member who lives at 1207 Folsom who sells weed to other gang members. With the assistance of the Pro -Act team we served a search warrant at this house which netted %2 lb of weed and a rifle. Our target was Leo Castillo Jr. who is a convicted felon. We did have one gang related shooting call tonight at 1710 E. Nob Hill Blvd (Nob Hill Food Mart) where unknown gang members (Southside's) got into a fight. During the fight a shot was fired. Shaw, Taylor and Salinas assisted patrol and found that nothing was hit. There were several witnesses and the suspect vehicle was given out to surrounding agencies. Shaw was able to view the video and did not recognize any of the player or vehicles involved. Most likely these guys were from the lower valley. Saturday 8/22 Tonight was our annual "Low Rider" event. Needless to say we had the streets of Yakima well covered with officers. The City of Ellensburg was very gracious to provide us with six of their officers to assist us for the event. Each of them was assigned with one of our officers and worked the foot patrol assignments in the central business district. Initially activity was slow however as the night wore on Yakima Avenue became very congested with traffic. For the most part those participating in the event were well behaved and complied with law enforcement. Around 2230 hrs some of our local problem children started agitating different areas up and down the Ave. We shut the event down around 2300 hrs. Printed: 8/31/2009 The gang emphasis unit was working as well. The gang emphasis unit was working as well. I have attached Sgt. Watt's comments about the emphasis patrols. With the significant amount of officers working tonight things remained fairly uneventful for the gang emphasis unit. Ofc.Walls and I located a 13 year old male in district 1 who was wearing red and carrying what appeared to be a rifle. I observed him ditch the gun behind a tree and attempt to leave the area. The gun was an air rifle. The juvenile, Michael Lumley had no gang affiliation just wanting to "look the part". Sunday 8/23 Nothing significant to report related to gang activity. Monday 8/24 The emphasis patrol was on duty this evening. Activity was minimal however I am attaching a comment forwarded on by Sgt. Henne. Officer C. Miller and I stopped one car with five La Raza gang members in it at 8th Street and MLK. As we rounded the corner from D Street onto 8th Street I could smell a very strong odor of marijuana. We were about a half of a block behind a car traveling south. When we got behind the car at 8th Street and Lincoln we found that the odor was coming from in the car as we could see the smoke billowing out. We arrested three out of five. One was booked, one was released to mommy and the third was cited and released as he appeared to be newcomer to the crowd and was very cooperative. Officer Voline told me that he received a call from a Kennewick detective who was investigating a robbery involving some of our gang members todaywho told him that we needed to stop our emphasis as a lot of our gang members were now hiding out in Kennewick until things cool down up here. Tuesday 8/25 Nothing significant to report related to gang activity. Wednesday 8/26 The emphasis patrols were not working on Wednesday however there was gang related activity at Wal -Mart. Attached is the pass on provided by Sgt. Upton. This is another example how uncooperative individuals are with the police when we respond to a gang related incident. We responded to Wal -Mart at 1820 hrs for multiple reports of a gang fight inside the store. When we got there, some of the participants had fled. Inside the store we located the - uncooperative battered victim 16 year old Alliciana Clark, who claimed La Raza. She had been assaulted by an unknown male Sureno, but Clark would not provide further an of course didn't want to do anything about it. She was a signed runaway and after we couldn't locate her father, we took her to CRC. Clark was in the company of Lorena Moreno. On the other end of it was Juana Toral 11 -23 -89 who claimed blue, and Daniel J Estrada 8 -20 -75 who first gave a name of Eric Estrada. No arrests were made, but the store manager was planning to see if it was captured on video for additional info.
