HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/05/2008 04B Minutes 07-21-2008 Council Boards and Commissions Appointing Committee MINUTES OF THE BOARDS & COMMISSIONS APPOINTING COMMITTEE MEETING JULY 21, 2008 3:30 P.M. Attendees: Assistant Mayor Cawley, Council Member Johnson, Council Member McClure and Deputy Clerk Watkins 1. Southeast Community Center Committee It was the consensus of the group to solicit more applications for the committee, to interview the applicants prior to selection, and to have Ester Huey and Henry Beauchamp involved in the interview process. It will be a goal to accomplish the interviews within the next 30 days. Deputy Clerk Watkins will contact Ester Huey and Henry Beauchamp with a request to participate in the interviews. 2. Community Review Board • Of the three applications received; one was no longer interested. It was decided to recommend Hector Franco for appointment. The other applicant, Martha Gamboa, was also interested in membership on the SECC. It was decided to wait and see what happens with that committee before deciding whether to appoint her to the CRB as.it was her second choice. The nomination of Hector Franco will be brought before the full Council at the August 5, 2008 meeting. For the meantime, there will continue to be one vacancy on this committee. 3. Parks and Recreation. Committee Discussion covered the need for fresh membership on this committee as well as the benefits of tenure. Assistant Mayor Cawley suggested reappointing Bob Busse but also to suggest to Council that an additional position be created to represent Yakima's youth. The youth position would require the member to be between the ages of 18 and 30. The nomination of Bob Busse will be brought before the full Council at the August 5, 2008 meeting. Assistant Mayor Cawley will also bring forth the suggestion of establishinga youth position. . 4. Yakima Valley Historical Review Committee After reviewing the applications, it was the consensus of the committee to nominate Stephanie Gilmore and Karl Pasten for the two openings on this committee. Those nominations will be brought forward at the August 5, 2008 Council business meeting. The meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m. • ►corm J. •n, Chair
