Meeting Minutes
Attendance: Council Members: Micah Cawley, Neil McClure and Kathy Coffey
Staff: Dick Zais, Randy Beehler
Discussion:
➢ Council Budget Committee noted the concise report offered by Nancy Fortier,
Refuse & Recycling Manager, evaluating the implementation of the automated
refuse collection. There was also appreciation of the simplified explanation of
the "miscellaneous" classification of expenditures within the City budget.
➢ Dick Zais presented the "new" revised /or collapsed edition of the Departmental
S Breakdown (i.e.: without narratives) which was previously distributed at the July
17, 2008 CBC meeting.
> An explanation of "Outside agencies" was delivered by Dick Zais as Policy
Issues previously authorized by Council.
> The CBC unanimously agreed that to thoroughly review and come to a
reasonable understanding of the City's General Government Budget will require
a long term commitment on their part. It was suggested the State Performance
Audit should be fully utilized to recommend efficiencies to the City Council.
> Council Committee Discussions Included:
o The Yakima City Council Strategic Priorities was shared and discussed
among the Committee members, who then individually ranked each
item. The Council Budget Committee then requested the Strategic
Priorities be presented to the City Council for ranking of priorities by the
entire Council.
o Council Budget Committee also requested the Yakima City Council
Strategic Priorities be posted on the City web site to be "scored" by the
community.
