For Meeting of Dec. 9, 2008 ITEM TITLE: Consideration of a Resolution Declaring Certain Used Police Vehicles Surplus and Authorizing the City Manager to allow the Washington State Department of. General Services Administration to Sell or Auction these Vehicles. SUBMITTED BY: Chief Granato, Police Department CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Deputy Chief Kelly Rosenow, 575 -6210 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Police Department has ten used vehicles, which are no longer fit for police service. All of these vehicles are in poor condition. The Department requests that these vehicles be declared surplus and removed from our inventory. The Department also would like to allow the Washington State Department of General Services Administration to sell or auction these vehicles for the City at their surplus property facility in Kent. It 0 has been the Police Department's experience that used vehicles bring significantly higher sales and auction prices at the Kent facility than we receive locally. Resolution X Ordinance Contract Other (Specify) Funding Source N/A APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL: C - City Manager STAFF RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the Council adopt the Resolution and declare these vehicles surplus and allow the Washington Dept. of General Services Administration to sell or auction these vehicles for the City. ' BOARD /COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: COUNCIL ACTION: 410 RESOLUTION NO. R- A RESOLUTION declaring ten used police vehicles to be surplus and authorizing their sale by the Washington State General Services Administration WHEREAS, the City owns two used 2003 Chevy Impalas, -one used 2000 Chevy Impala, five used 2002 Chevy Impalas, and two used 2001 Chevy Impalas in the Equipment Rental and Replacement Division; equipment numbers 1444, 1362, 1416, 1415, 1414, 1423, 1389, 1419, 1395, and 1442 for which the City has no immediate or foreseeable use and which are surplus to the needs of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to allow the Washington State Department of General Services Administration to sell or auction these police vehicles for the City of Yakima, now, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby declares the aforementioned police vehicles to be surplus to ® the needs of the City of Yakima and the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to allow the Washington State Department of General Services Administration to sell or auction these vehicles for the City of Yakima.
