For Meeting of:August 6, 2018 ITEM TITLE: Strategic Plan update -next steps SUBMITTED BY: Ana Cortez,Assistant City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Staff recommends review of statements of purpose, strategies and perspectives from each Council Committee by the full Council. If the proposed language is consistent with the strategic plan conversation of March 17, 2018, then Council may adopt the proposed statements, strategies and perspectives. This work is consistent with accepted rules of procedure that indicate that the work of Council committees is a legislative function of the Council and is directed, in part, by the adopted Council Strategic Plan. If approved, this framework will be used to guide the appropriate space for examination of various issues. The Rules of Procedure, Section B.8 indicate that Council committees shall examine policies, proposals, and issues assigned to them by a majority vote of the Council. Issues, proposals, and items generated independently by Council committees or individual Council members will not be examined, reviewed, or pursued by City staff without direction having been given to the City Manager to do so by a majority vote of the Council. If language is approved, Council may: 1. Direct staff to use this information and update the City's website and relevant documents that inform the public about the City's strategic direction. 2. Direct staff to facilitate further conversations regarding strategic elements that require further clarification. 3. Direct staff to wait until Council provides further guidance.
