TO-PERMS, adequate housing is essential-for healthy communities; and
`Gh"JfEcREf4, winter poses a hardship to the 670 individuals andfamilies in this year's
Point in gime count in (Yakima County— 242 of them unsheltered and another 353 staying in
emergency shelters; and
`Gh"X!ERM S, 74 of those staying in shelters or outdoors were children 18 years or
younger; and
`r471!ERM S, approximately 60 individuals in our community are known to have died
this year without a safe place to call home, or died too soon because of the experience of
homelessness; and
` &fERM S, December 21st is.9'lationalJfomeless Persons'SYLemorial Day as
designated by the Stational i-fealth Care for the.i-fomeless Council and the National-Coalition
for the.i-fomeless, and
`G JPER S, in recognition of the special-challenges and trauma living without a safe
place to call home presents to any man, woman, orchildin our country, residents of(Yakima are
encouraged to promote compassion and generosity for allpeople, especially the poor and the
homeless.

the City Council do hereby proclaim `Wednesday, December 21st 2022, as
"gCome(ess Persons' JKemoria(Day"
in the City of(Yakima and askafresidents to take a moment of silence in remembrance of those
who passedfrom ailments or conditions related to homelessness and encourage support for local
efforts to eliminate homelessness in our community.
