Council Economic Deve(opment Committee
Wednesday, June 3, 2009
4:00 p.m.
Members present: Micah Cawley, Maureen Adkison
Staff: Bill Cook, Michael Morales
Michael Morales reported that the City has an opportunity to apply for a Brownfields
Economic Development Initiative (BEDI) grant funding through HUD. He said that some of
the work for the grant is already done because of the work that was done in 2008 on the
Local Infrastructure Financing Tool (LIFT) project. Michael noted that it is a very competitive
process. The deadline for the grant is June 16.
Michael will be in Washington DC next week with a group of people that are pushing for the
extension of the renewal community designation that is set to expire at the end of this year.
This has been an advantage for the City in terms of economic development.
1Ik3 ill Cook reported that Doug Rich will speak to the Committee about local economic
ndicators at the July meeting. Mr. Rich is an expert on the local housing market. Micah
said that it is important to continue to support the building community and he is glad to have
the opportunity. Micah and Maureen will be thinking of other people in the community that
might like to come and speak to the Committee about economic development.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Council Economic Development Committee will
be Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 4:00 p.m.
