religious, etfinic, geograpl icafand economic groups; and
WXE9lfS, domestic violence is an immense problem in Yakima County, wlere in 2019, tfle
YWCA Yakima served more tflan 6,600 individuals wflo were impacted by domestic violence; and
WEE M,S, in Yakima County, tlere (nave been more tflan 39 domestic violence-related
l omicides since 1997; tflis number includes domestic violence victims, tl eir cl ifdren,fiends or family
members, as well as law enforcement officers, and
WJfE1 J7S, domestic violence is widespread, wlereby one in tlree persons will eider be a
victim of violence orpersona[Zy know someone wflo is a victim; and
WI/E9 AS, the City of Yakima is committed to eliminating domestic violence and ensuring a
safe and l eaftfy community for all its citizens,
NOW TifiERETOXE, in recognition of tfle impact tflat domestic violence flas on tfle leaftl
and well-being of our community, I, Janice cDeccio, Mayor of tfle City of Yakima and belalf of tfle
Yakima City Council, do l ereby proclaim tfle montl of October 2022 as
"DONE,STIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS 110nhlf'
in tfle City of Yakima and urge aff citizens to participate in tfle activities planned by tfle YWCA
Yakima and community organizations during this month. Citizens should also take the opportunity to
educate tlemsefves about tfle impact of domestic violence in Yakima and to become familiar witfi
resources andprograms available.
