S UM M ARY E X P L ANAT I O N:
The City of Yakima was notified by the U. S. Department of J ustice that it is eligible to apply for
the F Y2021 J A G in the amount of $66,982. The City is required to share $15,638 with Yakima
County. T he grant will fund Yakima P olice Department anti-crime emphasis patrols and police
equipment for Yakima County. The grant requires a public hearing and the approval of an
interlocal agreement with Yakima County.

RESOLUTION NO. R-2022-
A RESOLUTION ratifying an application for a grant in the total amount of $66,982 from the
United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Administration,
Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Administration, Edward
Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, has grant funds available to local
governments to support efforts to reduce crime and improve public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Yakima Police Department has been notified that $66,982 in grant funds
have been allocated to the City of Yakima and Yakima County and are available upon submission
of a completed grant application and satisfaction of certain conditions; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima considered this matter at an open public
meeting in which citizens were provided an opportunity to comment and deems it to be in the best
interest of the City to authorize submission of an application to the Justice Assistance Grant
Program for said available funds and execution of all necessary documents and contracts to
complete said grant transaction, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
1. The City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit a completed grant
application to the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Administration, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, to obtain a
grant to fund local efforts to reduce crime and improve public safety.
