A RESOLUTION authorizing and directing the City Manager to pay moving
expenses up to $250 per household for residential tenants
displaced as a result of the City's Fire Station No. 5 Expansion
Project and electing not to comply with the provisions of RCW
8.26.035 through 8.26.115.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is in the process of constructing a Fire
Department training complex adjacent to existing Fire Station No. 5; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to acquire properties in the vicinity of Yakima
Fire Station No. 5 in order to provide adequate area for the Fire Department
training complex; and
WHEREAS, several of the adjacent properties are currently occupied by
residential tenants (renters) who will be displaced as a result of construction of
the Fire Department training complex; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City of
Yakima to not comply with the provisions of RCW 8.26.035 through 8.26.115 as
specifically allowed by RCW 8.26.010(2); and
WHEREAS, the City is not receiving any federal financial assistance to aid
in the construction of the Fire Department training complex, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to pay to each displaced
residential tenant actual moving expenses not to exceed $250 per household. The
City elects not to comply with the provisions of RCW 8.26.035 through 8.26.115.
