March- .16..,..1973,,,._at..the. Cosmopolitan Chinook Hotel, Yakima,, Washington. Councilmen present. at the- mee.ting.were Mayor._.Bert Broad., Wray,.Brown,.Betty....L.. Edmondson, Jim Lust, Don Schussler and.Bill Whitaker... Al.so_present were...City.Manag.er..Craig McMicken, City Clerk Jack. Daniel -and.representing the press, Jim Bowers. Mayor Broad announced.that.there would be a..special meeting.with the Union.Gap City Coun- cil on Tuesday, March 20,.1973,_at which time Commissioner Cliff Onsgard would be present and also members of.the Union Gap City Council. The time,,.place and. subject of the meet- ing is "to 'be': ninounced. Councilman Edmondson asked.City Manager.McMicken_as - to the 'status the proposed acquisi- tion..of the Moore property.for parks development. City Manager- McMlcken acknowledged that an option_ received from the.Moore'.s.yesterday. was being.studied. There was discussion regarding what the :City.is doing :by -way :of.preparing construction of . sidewalks. ..It was MOVED by Schussler, seconded by.Cole that the City.Manager study the possibility.of the.development of the Comprehensive Plan, - which would include a map of all the sidewalks in.Yakima and consider possible use of .Federal.monies..to.s.upport such a plan: carried;'Broad, Brown,.Cole, Edmondson, Lust, Schussler and Whitaker. voting aye by voice vote. Also.. discussed was the.idea..of- encouraging builders to put in underground,. rather than . overhead..wiring.on all new construction jobs. City Manager McMicken pointed out that one . of the problems with this.plan is that the City relies on overhead poles upon which to hang street lights. It -was MOVED by'.Cole, seconded by Schussler that a report be prepared addressing the idea of full improvements to subdivisions:: Broad, - Brown, Cole.,.Edmondson, Lust, Schussler and Whitaker voting aye by voice. vote. Mayor Broad passed around_ a. letter from Mr. Fields, stating. his..availability.as.a candi- date,to replace Jim:Lust. There was no action taken at this time on'this letter. ;Councilman Wray Brown stated d -that he had used the name of the "city" in asking for use of the Yakima Valley Transporta.tion.Company's tracks for-. excursion street cars. Mayor Broad announced that there was a letter received from Longview.- which. indicated that •Longview would be celebrating_their 50th Anniversary between the.end'of June'and July 4, 1973, and asked that the City of Yakima send. a representative to'Longview'to participate in this celebration. There was.no.action taken on this at this time. Mayor ,Broad also. announced that there -wouldbe. a .conference in..San . Francisco. in mid -June at .which. time there would. be'. workshops. on. community. development funding and that it was his intention to attend... No' action was taken on this announcement at this time. There. -was some..discussion about.a different type of token gift.for dignitaries. .Mayort.Broad, stated that the use of the felt flag. to be inappropriate, except if it were mounted .on a base, inscribed, and the type of material changed. Several members of the Council .said they, would consider this problem and make'recommendations at a later time.
