Carmen Martinez Codes Department 129 N. 2nd Street Yakima, Wa. 98901 Dear Ms. Martinez and Officials of The City Council, Enclosed please find the required application, certificate of insurance, site location and distance map along with a $50.00 check from The Fall Fitness Games for a Fireworks permit covering our event on September 18th. The display will be approximately 5 minutes in length at the end of our Awards Parade and Ceremony. The operator will be Milt Brown, who has done firework displays in Zaepfel Stadium and around the City of Yakima for years. We trust that we have met all the requirements. To give you a brief description of The Fall Fitness Games, there are 17 different fitness events scheduled on Saturday, September 18th all over the city of Yakima. These include: softball, volleyball, tennis, karate, golf and bowling tournaments, as well as 5 different walking and running events, cycling, a Swim-a-thon, Aerobathon, Spectra Step 93', bench press, country dance contest, rollerskating, and a kids event. All of this will culminate that evening with a huge Awards Parade and Ceremony in Zaepfel Stadium ending with our fireworks display. Mayor Pat Berndt has issued a proclamation for September 18th as Fitness day for the City of Yakima, due to The Fall Fitness Games. The Games are in the process of becoming a non-profit organization and we plan on holding them each year, eventually to become a nation-wide event, taking place in cities and towns all across the United States. Proceeds will benefit the Battered Women's Shelters by helping to buy and stock safe houses. The community has been very supportive about this event and we are thrilled with the response that we have been getting from people who want to participate. You see, this fitness event isn't for the Olympic athlete as much as it is for the average American. Every participant has the equal chance of winning whether they are young or old, man or woman, black, white, brown or red, rich or poor, small, medium or large, EVERYONE! We hope you and the City of Yakima employees will join us by participating in the event of your choice. If that isn't possible then come to the Awards Parade and Ceremony that evening. It will be an event you won't want to miss. Due to the nature of these Games and who we are benefiting, we would like to ask The City Council if they could waive the $50.00 permit fee. Because this is our first year and we are just getting our feet wet, we would appreciate the help. Thank you for your consideration. See you at The Games!
