SPECIAL MEETING
YAKIMA 'CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 18, 1973
Pursuant 'to due notice, a joint meeting of the City Council, Housing and Renewal Committee
and the Yakima Housing Authority was held at 5:30 P.M., January 18, 1973, at the Southeast
Community Center, Yakima, Washington.

Coiuncilmen.•present were Mayor Bert Broad, Wray Brown, Howard C. Cole, Betty Edmondson_, Don
Schussler and Bill Whitaker. Councilman Lust absent."' Also present were City Manager Craig
McMicken and City Attorney Fred.Andrews.
The purpose of the meeting was to hear a presentation by the Housing and Renewal Committee.
Homer Matson briefed those present on the need for a housing package for the City of
Yakima and gave a synopsis of the program.
Mr. Artrice Gordon and Robert Long reported on a proposed Yakima Housing package. No deci-
sions were made by the City Council at this meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M., to meetiagain to hear a continuation of the Housing
and Renewal'Committee's report at `5:30 P.M., January 23, 1973, at the Southeast Community
Center.

The City Council met in special session pursuant to due notice at 12 :00 noon, January 19,
1973, at the Chinook Hotel, Yakima,- Washington.'

Councilmen::present were Mayor. Bert Broad, Wray Brown, Howard C.. Cole," Betty.. Edmondson, Don
Schussler and'Bill Whitaker. Councilman Jim Lust absent. Also present was City Manager
Craig McMicken and City Clerk Jack Daniel.

Councilman Brown reported that a Yakima Mall Committee was preparing a proposal for the
construction of a Convention and Cultural Center in the lower level of the Yakima Mall.
City - Clerk, Jack Daniel, reported that there are .meetings scheduled for•Monday, January122,-
1973, at Sea- Tac•Ai.rport and again on Tuesday, January 23, 1973, at Spokane concerning the
possibility of State and Federal Funding available to support the State's "Jobs Now
Program ". Airport Manager, Jim Eakin, will attend Monday's meeting and Jack Daniel will
attend Tuesday's meeting in Spokane, following which there will be a report made to the
Council.

City Manager, Craig McMicken, discussed with the Council a proposal that the City acquire
the Masonic Temple building to convert into'a multi -use City Recreation Center. Also dis-
cussed was possibilities for the disposition of space now being rented to private business
concerns officed in the Masonic Temple building. No .decision were made. at this time.
