P JIEREAS, the Yakima Tennis Club and the Vnited States Tennis Association will
present a community event on Saturday, August 22, open to all Yakima residents; and
P JIEREAS, the citizens of the City of Yakima recognize the value of athletic events in
the Yakima valley; and
P JIEREAS, tennis is a fantastic outdoor physical activity and can 6e a big part of
keeping (Yakima families healthy and active; and
ZV.XEREAS, the (Yakima Tennis Club's mission includes sharing tennis, the sport for a
lifetime, with all (Yakima resident through events and specialprograms; and
P WEREAS, the (Yakima Tennis Club, established in 1968 in order to provide year-
round access to tennis in the (Yakima valley with the Club's tournaments' and events, have
contributed over $4.5 million to our local economy; and
P 1IEREAS, the Vnited States Tennis Association and the City of (Yakima Parks and
Recreation partnership have been committed to making tennis affordable for all who wish to
learn and play the game and offers affordable lessons for all ages with an abundance of both
public and private facilities offering 73 tennis courts in (Yakima; and
P 1IEREAS, the (Yakima Tennis Club's prima),function is to promote health,
character and good sportsmanship by offering tennis programming of all kinds; and
NOW ` OERETOIEE, 1, Micah Cawley, Mayor of the City of (Yakima and on behalf of
the City Council, do hereby proclaim Saturday, August 22, 2015 as
