HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/22/1972 Special Meeting 474 NOVEMBER 22,.1972 MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING ' YAKIMA CITY COUNCIL • NOVEMBER 22, 1972 • The City Council met in special session at 3 :00 P..M., November 22, 1972, in Council • Chambers at Yakima City Hall, having waived notice of said meeting by signature, which signatures are on file in the office of the Yakima City Clerk. • Councilmen present at the meeting were Mayor Bert Broad, Wray Brown, Jim Lust, Don . Schussler and Bill Whitaker. Councilmen Lenore Lambert and Walter Robinson being absent, it was MOVED by Brown, seconded•by Whitaker that these two Councilmen be excused: carried, Broad, Brown, Lust, Schussler and Whitaker voting aye by voice vote. Mayor Broad announced that this meeting had been called in order. to present 'Staff rrecom- mendations to the Council for immediate action in regard to a temporary mid -block cross- walk on Second and Third Streets. . City Manager McMicken_ reviewed the meeting held with Staff members in which the following alternatives were presented: . • 1. A painted crosswalk with enforcement by the Police. 2. A. painted crosswalk with barrels placed at points across • 3..'A painted crosswalk with a Police' Officer on duty. 4. A painted crosswalk with an island arrangement across the center. 5. A non - designated mid -block crosswalk, such as is found now. 6. Close Second Street from Yakima Avenue to A Street and use that area as a park- ing lot for the month of December with an attendant at the entrance to the lot. Those present in the audience and speaking in favor of the temporary closure of. Second Street during the Christmas season were Mr. Lee Semo.n and Mr. Cliff Miller. After due discussion, it was MOVED by Schussler, seconded by Whitaker that a temporary crosswalk with an island arrangement be established at North Third Street between Yakima Avenue and.A Street and that Second. Street between Yakima Avenue and A Street be tempo- rarily used for free parking, both proposals to. be effective during the month of December: carried, Broad, Brown., Lust, Schussler and Whitaker voting aye by voice vote. Lambert and Robinson absent. There being no further business to come before the Council, it was MOVED by Lust,'seconded by Whitaker that we do now adjourn at the hour of 3:40 P.M.: carried, Broad, Brown, Lust, Schussler and Whitaker voting,aye by voice vote.
