City Hall,, to. hear. and_ resolve the wage negotiation „impasse reached between the.City. of Yak:ima..and..the Yakima Police Patrolmen's Association (YPPA) and Yakima Fire - Fighters' Association (YFFA). Present were Mayor Bert Broad, Councilmen Jim Lust, Walter Robinson,.Don:..Schussler and Bill Whitaker, City Manager Craig McMicken, CityAttorney Fred Andrews and Personnel Director Bob Hilsmann. Councilmen Wray Brown.and_Leno.re Lambert w.er.e absent. . Statements of impasse were presented by representatives of.the'YPPA YFFA.. . Also speaking for the YPPA was Mr. John Rayback, Attorney. City Manager McMicken and Personnel Director Hilsmann presented.. the C.ity,,.'.s. :..ca.s.e.. Negotiators for both s.ides,-were • a_greed- .:that .the,wage.,.increase ,.for_..YPPA. and YFFA. employees be 6.2 percent for calendar year, 1973, in line with Phase II guidelines. _ Members of ,presented wage increase ,re-ques.ts,,of ,6..2 .percent. for. 1:97.2., effective October 1, 1972 and.the YFFA requested 5.5 percent for the same period. The City Manager's rec,ommendat.ion-:was percent for this period.:., . Action to resolve the impasse was deferred by the City Council pending a detailed study of the issues. To facilitate this study, City- Manager. McMicken was. as.ked..to gather • information from other Washington cities as to their plans for 1973 wage increases and to provide costs of wage increases for all city employees.
