A RESOLUTION authorizing the City Manager of the City of Yakima to
assign the approved contract from Washington State
Department of Community Development for funding of
the purchase and rehabilitation of a duplex for HIV
infected community residents to the Carebearers Volunteer
Program, who will be the legal owners.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima wishes to support and provide safe,
decent and affordable housing for HIV infected citizens of Yakima City and for
which state funding is available from the Washington State Department of
Community Development State Housing Trust Fund; and
WHEREAS, many HIV infected citizens of the City of Yakima, living on
fixed, monthly incomes at or below the 50 percent median family income level
pay a disproportionate share of such income towards housing costs; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima deems it to be in the
best interest of the City to assign the contract to the Carebearers Volunteer
Program for such funding, for the purpose mentioned above; now, therefore,
WHEREAS, the City Council previously authorized the execution of the
Agreement described below with the East Valley Reformed Church by City
Council Resolution # D-6076, which Agreement is unacceptable to the State
Department of Community Development.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
YAKIMA:
The City Manager and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to
assign the 1991 Washington State Housing Trust Fund contract, including all
understandings and assurances contained therein, with the Washington State
Department of Community Development and the City Manager further is hereby
designated as the official representative of the City to act in connection with the
contract assignment and to provide such additional information as may be
required. It is further resolved that Resolution # D-6076 is hereby repealed.
