HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/14/2022 Study Session 1 MINUTES YAKIMA CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION June 14, 2022 City Hall --Council Chambers 5:00 p.m. Meeting conducted in person and virtually via Zoom 1. Roll Call Present: Mayor Janice Deccio, presiding,Assistant Mayor Soneya Lund and Councilmembers Matt Brown, Patricia Byers, Danny Herrera and Holly Cousens (attending remotely via Zoom) Staff: City Manager Robert Harrison, City Attorney Sara Watkins and City Clerk Sonya Claar Tee Absent and excused: Councilmember Diana Macias 2. Public comment(allow 15 minutes) None. 3. Miller Park Improvements Project Update Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson shared a PowerPoint and an update on Miller Park improvements. 4. Renaming Park Facilities Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson reviewed the process for renaming park facilities. MOTION: Cousens moved and Lund seconded to direct staff to bring back an amended resolution removing the clause "and who has been deceased for a period of one year" from Section 1(e). Pursuant to Section 2. The motion carried by unanimous vote, Macias absent. 5. Housing Opportunities and Funding Community Development Director Joan Davenport shared a PowerPoint and an update on the status of Community Development Block Grant and HOME program funds. Planning Manager Joseph Calhoun provided updates on the progress of the priority projects from the Housing Action Plan and City owned surplus property project. 6. Potential City of Yakima delegation trip to Washington, D.C. Page 1 of 2 2 Communication and Public Affairs Manager Randy Beehler briefed Council on a possible trip to Washington, D.C. by a delegation of Council members and City staff in September 2022. He stated due to requirements of the Washington State Open Public Meeting Act, no more than three members of the City Council would be able to be part of the delegation. MOTION: Cousens moved and Brown seconded to approve the proposed trip to Washington, DC. The motion carried by unanimous vote, Macias absent. Councilmembers discussed how to determine who will be part of the delegation. City Manager Harrison suggested drawing names to decide who will attend this year and those not selected could attend the following year. Councilmembers will let Administrative Assistant Cally Price know their availability in order to make a decision at an upcoming meeting. 7. Adjournment MOTION: Lund moved and Macias seconded to adjourn to the next City Council regular meeting on June 21, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The motion carried by unanimous vote, Macias absent.
