A RESOLUTION providing for free public use of the City transit
system for the 'week of October 14-19, 1991.
WHEREAS, the City.of Yakima desires to reduce traffic
congestion, parking congestion, and air pollution through
promotion of energy efficient -and ecologically sound transpor-
tation via mass transit; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it necessary to the
achievement of the above -referenced goals to.encourage the use
of and attract additional ridership• for the. City transit
system; and
• WHEREAS, the twenty -fifth -anniversary of the provision of
transit service by the City of Yakima presents an unique
opportunity for promoting the use of the City's mass transit
system; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the provi-
sion of free bus service the week of October .14-19, 1991
should encourage new riders to use the City transit system and
promote increased use of the system by existing riders, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The Public Works Director is hereby authorized and di-
rected 'to provide all regularly scheduled fixed route transit
service without fare from midnight October 13 to midnight
October 19,.1991.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED -that there be no adjustment of bus
passes purchased for the month of October; 1991. This resolu-
tion:. does not apply to any other service provided by the City
of Yakima Transit Division or offered by 'the City of Yakima..
