Pursuant to due notice, the City Council met with the City .Planning Commission in special
session at 6:30 P.M., August, 1972.

-Councilmen present at the meeting were. Mayor. Bert Broad ,. Wray.Brown, Lenore Lambert, Don
Schussler and Bill Whitaker. Planning Commission members present were Ellis Cummins,
Charles Fowler, Walter Phillip, Gene Shields, John Fairbrook and Champ Sanford. Also pres-
ent was City Manager Craig McMicken. • •
Park Director Bill Hutsinpiller, presented background 'information on Yakima's future need
1 for park facilities west of Franklin Park. - Three privately .owned properties were.- consider- •
ed for purchase with respect to each property's potential for park development. Mr. Hut -
sinpiller recommended that a decision be made soon as to which of the three properties. ,
, would be negotiated for so that the could apply, by October 1, 1972, for State match-
ing funds, , . . .. .
City Manager McMicken explained a preliminary study entitled "Foundation for Metropolitan-
wide Planning ", which was discussed by the Council and the Planning Commission. It was
informally agreed. that discussions continue to develop the regional planning concept. ,
The special session was adjourned at 9:35 P. -M.. •
