HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1991-D5915 Trolley BusRESOLUTION NO. D-5915 A RESOLUTION declaring downtown trolley bus service fare free. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has recently acquired four diesel buses decorated in a trolley motif hereafter called trolley bus; and WHEREAS, the City Council for the City of Yakima wishes to use the trolley buses in the downtown area of the City of Yakima for the purpose of reducing parking and traffic conges- tion, improving air quality, inducing economic growth, and enhancing the safety and welfare of the general population; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to operate the afore- mentioned buses on a trial basis over a fixed downtown route without charging fares, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: No fare shall be charged for transit service on the City's trolley buses while in service on the dates and routes to be designated by the Public Works Director and for one year thereafter. The Public Works Director shall cause to be published in a newspaper of general circulation, at least one notice declaring the routes of service and time of service and beginning and ending time of free fares. The trolleys shall serve various routes within an area bounded by Twelfth Avenue on the west, Spruce Street on the south, Ninth Street on the east, and "D" Street on the north. This resolution does not apply to any other service which may be offered by the City of Yakima with the trolley buses outside of the designated areas and times mentioned in this resolution. Except as otherwise provided in this resolution, standard fares, which have been heretofore declared by this Council, 111 (res/trlybus.jv) shall remain in effect on all other transit service provided by the City of Yakima.
