RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION authorizing the installation of emergency public
water supply sources.
WHEREAS, recent Yakima County Health District reports
indicate that the ground water in the following described
areas contains fecal coliform which is an indicator of patho-
gens such as typhus, typhoid fever, and cholera that area
within the City of Yakima bounded by the center lines of the
following streets: South Race Street, East 10th Street,
Pacific Avenue, and the western edge of Interstate Highway
#82, and
, WHEREAS, the area which is described above is only par-
tially served with City domestic water and residents of the
described area primarily rely upon domestic wells, some of
which have been found to contain fecal coliform; and
WHEREAS, the area which is described above has been
subject to outbreaks of typhoid fever in the past; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds and declares that the resi-
dents of this area are primarily low income persons; and
WHEREAS, the Council desires to provide to the residents
of the area described above City domestic water for cooking
and drinking purposes in order to protect public health to be
dispensed, free of charge, from publicly accessible water
taps, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The Director of Engineering and Utilities is hereby
authorized and directed to construct and maintain at public
expense two publicly accessible water taps within the area
described above, or within its immediate vicinity, in order to
dispense to the residents of the area described above, City
domestic water for the purpose of drinking and cooking. Such
water taps shall be open to use from 6.00 a.m. to 12-00 mid-
night.
The Director of Engineering and Utilities is hereby
authorized and directed to make such other reasonable rules

and regulations concerning the use and access of such public
water taps as he may direct. Such rules and regulations shall
be posted at or near such water taps so that they may be
easily read by those using such water taps.
This resolution shall expire six (6) months after its
passage by the City Council.
