A RESOLUTION endorsing application for designation of the Yakima Depot as
an Historic Site.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima, Washington, recognizes the importance
and history of the Railroad and Railroad Depot in the development of the West and
the City of Yakima, and
WHEREAS, the location of the railroad operation was the basis for the
establishment of the City of Yakima, and
WHEREAS, the preservation and rehabilitation of the Yakima Depot is
important to the heritage of this community as well as the economic vitality of
Front Street and the Central Business District, and
WHEREAS, the State Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation
supports the certification of the Yakima Depot Rehabilitation Project by the
National Parks Service, and
WHEREAS, many of the project elements go well beyond the Secretary's
standards according to the State Office of Archeology and Historic Research, now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The Mayor of the City of Yakima is hereby authorized to send a letter of
support to the National Parks Service endorsing the Washington Central Railroad
application for the designation of the Yakima Depot as an Historic Site, and that
by this Resolution the City of Yakima urges the approval of the application.
