Dear Governor Inslee, ""
._ ;ate.__
The Yakima City Council strongly urges you to not takeany executive action that would put in
jeopardy state funding critical to improving multimodal( infrastructure in Yakima The ambitious
transportation package adopted by the legislature a signed by you arlier this month
includes multimodal funding for the extension of the Yakima Greenway expansion of the
Cowiche Canyon Conservancy trail system, and thelpurchase of new Yakima Transit buses
The historic transportation package will also boost the CltyRf Yakima's share of direct
distributions of gas tax revenues to local jurisdictions by more than $3.7 million over the next
ve
16 years. A portion of that funding will be inste L IC the City's ongoing, aggressive initiative
to upgrade our community's agingitransportation =infrastructure In 2013 and 2014 alone the
City independently financed more than $20 m Ilion in road improvements, repaving and
extending the life span of more than 12 lane miles of Yakima streets The City is anxious to
continue its efforts to enha c the safetyr-and d rivability of Yakima's roads utilizing its share of
increased gas tax revenues. .
The Yakima City Council applauds ykurwillingness to reach a compromise with the legislature
in order to pass-the transportation package, which will facilitate crucial, long -term investment in
our state's vital transportation infrastructure The Council adamantly opposes any action that
would put that esse t aWnvestr nt at risk.
Sincerely,
l atoll'
Mayor Micah Cawley
