Consideration of a street naming request submitted by the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post #379 and American Legion Post #36 to name
a future street known as Cascade Mill Parkway to Bravo Company
Boulevard.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On June 2, 2015, the City Council received a request to name a new street "Bravo Company Boulevard"
by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #379 and American Legion Post #36. The future street is within the
Cascade Mill Redevelopment project. The street has been referred to as Cascade Mill Parkway for
planning purposes. Accordingly, the naming of this street does not require a petition or public hearing
because it does not constitute the renaming of an existing street. The Municipal Code includes a
procedure for the Director of Community Development to approve a street name for a new or unnamed
street. The right of way for this future street within the Cascade Mill redevelopment project (and the
Yakima Revenue Development Area) has not yet been secured. A short portion of this street will be
constructed in late 2015 when the Fair Avenue Roundabout project is complete. This street will likely be
constructed in 2018, following clean-up of the landfill. This request does not meet the requirements of
YMC 8.70.050 for Renaming of a Street. Therefore, it is not necessary to establish a public hearing
pursuant to this section of the Municipal Code. However, the City Council may choose to declare a name
for this future street.

Staff suggests the Council direct additional comments and recommendations be gathered from property
owners and agencies. A written report can be submitted at a future Council meeting. No public hearing is
required for the naming of this street.

change. Include addresses, parcel numbers, and a business name when
applicable.
