UNIEP EAS, the Downtown Yakima 14ife presented by 9fome2 Suites andTru by.9fifton - TakimaAirport is a
one -mile race down a beautifuf14-bfockgraduafdownhiffstretch of TakimaAvenue, finishing in the shadows of
Takima's historic Larson Buifdng. This year's race wilt be held on Saturday, July 2, and wifffeature heats for kids,
families, veterans, elite runners, and more who "want to run their fastest mite.... EVER " and
UN. PgAS, the Downtown Yakima -Mile is much more than a race, it is about bringing our community
togetherforfun, fitness, andin support of an important cause that serves Takima TWCA, andits mission to end
Domestic violence in the Takima `Galley; and
`W"JiEP9AS, through the generosity of race sponsors 9Tome2 Suites andTru by .9fifton-TakimaAirport, the
Downtown Takima Mfe is free for runners 18 and under so that we may be able to promote healthy habits and
ffestyfes to youth; and
UWEREAS, the inauguraf Downtown Yakima 912ife drew runners of atfages andabitities as they raced
against the cfockin hopes of setting a new personal best, and that dayAmos Bartefsmeyer, running for Germany, set a
new Washington state recordfor the mite at 3 minutes, 51.79 seconds; and
UWEMEAS, the prize purse for the elite runners grew to over $45, 000 in 2021 and.Nikki Yfiftz charged away
in the final two blocks to set a new Washington state mite recordfor women with a time of 4 minutes, 21.50 seconds.
The men's race featured Olympian -14atthew Centrowitz, who won a gold medal in 2016 in the 1,500-meters, the first
`U.S. runner to win the event since 1908. 9fowever, former OregonACl-American Sam Prakefoutsprintedandheldoff
2019 runner-up Tripp .lfurt 6y less than a second 1Praket won the $5, 000 first prize in a time of 3 minutes, 54.9 seconds;
and
WJ ERAS, this year, the Downtown Takima .Life Committee is delighted to offer $50, 000 in prize money
across competitive andefite races andourgoatis to provide a healthy community event open to everyone, highlighting
and cefebrating the Takima Vatfey on a focal, regional, and nationafscafe; and
UNIEU, s, 1ogbacklevefopment Company, the producer of The Downtown Takima 914ite, seeks to shed
fight on the invafuabfe services provided by this year's beneficiary, the TWCA Yakima, who touch the lives of thousands
of people here in the vaffey through their 24-hour domestic violence emergency shelter, crisis hotline, afforda6fe housing
aid, fegafadvocacy, andmore. By participating in the Downtown Takima-11ife, the community can hefp provide the
TWCA with the resources to help every family in need.
