HomeMy WebLinkAboutArts Commission - Minutes 111820Takima.grts Commission Wednesday, November 18, 2020 Zoom Online Meeting 3:30 p.m. Minutes David Lynx convened the meeting at 3:35 p.m. In attendance: David Rogers, Soneya Lund, David Lynx, Teresa Pritchard, Susan Duffin, Jim Ward Morris, Kathy Coffey, Merivet Lombera, Randy Bonds Jr. (City of Yakima Liaison), Jane Cooper (Guest — Windows Alive) The Minutes from the June 17, 2019 meeting were reviewed. One correction was made, a word was missing in the first sentence on the Washington State Creative District recap. Budget: Randy Bonds Jr. presented a report that the budget has $8,650 remaining after paying for Windows Alive this year. There will also be an invoice for approx. $110 for labels for the Utility Box Art that has not been submitted. Jane informed the commission that the $500 dollars from the budget was used to clean the windows every other month. Windows Alive: Jane Cooper provided the commission and update on Windows Alive. Due to COVID-19, the Spring show had been postponed. It will now run July — December of 2020. Jane mentioned she recently put out a call for artists for the next show. It will run January 29, 2021 through July of 2021. She also mentioned she worked with Randy Bonds Jr. on a Windows Alive logo. The Windows Alive website (ran by Yakima Valley Tourism) has also been updated. Utility Box Wrap Project: David Lynx informed the Commission that two new were requested by the city. They are at 64th Ave and Occidental and 64th Ave and Ahtanum. He also mentioned that Randy Bonds Jr. had installed all of the stickers on the boxes noting the artist and the title of the work along with an Arts Commission logo. If any other agencies were involved with the box, their name was included as well. Finally, he asked members for suggestions where more boxes could be wrapped. Round -a -bout Art: The planning and economic development department asked for the Commissions input on any art ideas. Washington State Creative District: No update as Heath was not able to attend this meeting. Group Updates: Larson Gallery Opened for one day, and then had to close again due to new COVID restrictions. Yakima Symphony Due to no live Holiday Pops this year, the symphony has partnered with NW Public Broadcasting to highlight several of the past shows on December loth. On January 9th they'll have a YSO virtual roundtable. For the rest of the season, they are attempting to plan small ensemble pieces with socially distanced audiences. The Youth Symphony will continue online. The Chorus will continue to have a program called Chorus Connections Monday nights online. Capitol Theatre No update Yakima Valley Museum While also closed due to the pandemic, continue work on new exhibits and moving previous exhibits. They never opened, and do not plan to until next year. The museum received a $5,000 CARES Grant from ArtsWA.
