Minutes
David Lynx convened the meeting at 3:35 p.m.
In attendance: David Rogers, Soneya Lund, David Lynx, Teresa Pritchard, Susan Duffin,
Jim Ward Morris, Eliana Macias, Melissa Labberton, Heath Lambe, Kathy Coffey, Merivet
Lombera, Randy Bonds Jr. (City of Yakima Liaison), Charlie Robbins (Adhoc)
The Minutes from the June 17, 2019 meeting were reviewed. One correction was made
to the Symphony program. It had been recorded as, "From Here" The corrected title is,
"From Home" The minutes were unanimously voted to be accepted.
Budget: Randy Bonds Jr. presented a report that the budget has $8,650 remaining after
paying for Windows Alive this year. Due to COVID-19, only one showing of Windows Alive
will occur this year. There will also be an invoice for approx. $110 for labels for the Utility
Box Art that has not been submitted. The committee discussed spending the money on
more Utility Boxes. Randy, Jim Ward Morris, and David Lynx will work together to put out
a call to artists with dimensions for the boxes. The commission also approved $500 for
Windows Alive expenses.
Windows Alive: Due to COVID-19, the Spring show had been postponed. It will now run
July — December of 2020. Jane Cooper has begun to setup the exhibits from the 5 artists
that will be in this session.
Downtown Association of Yakima will also be doing a chalk art windows display in the
downtown area.
Utility Box Wrap Project: David Lynx informed the Commission that one new box has
been installed on V St and W. Viola Ave. He plans on adding labels to current
installations soon.
Mural Project — 23rd Ave and Lincoln Ave Retaining Wall: David has tried to contact
the artist (Ashley Cardenas) several times and has not received a reply. He mentioned
there is a process we must follow before ultimately choosing whether or not to make a
recommendation to council on this project.
Round -a -bout Art: The planning and economic development department asked for the
Commissions input on any art ideas. It was mentioned that we should try to get
dimensions so potential artists could know what they had to work with.
Washington State Creative District: Heath gave an excellent presentation on what a
Creative District is and how it would benefit Yakima. The next step would be to appoint a
liaison between the City and the Creative District. It was also mentioned that we are
inclusive of the Hispanic community in our planning.
Elect Vice -Chairperson: Teresa Pritchard was unanimously elected to the Vice Chair
position.
Group Updates:
Larson Gallery
New Gallery January. Central Washington Artist Show, call to artists deadline Sept. 24.
Show will open Mid -November and will also be offered virtually.
Yakima Symphony
Releasing Saturday evening virtual activities. Creating and interactive virtual roundtable,
with more coming this fall. They are also working on smaller programming with the hope
of being able to offer programming in person. The Youth Symphony will be online this fall.
Warehouse Theatre
Anonymous donor paid off mortgage, so they now own their building. They cannot open
in a limited capacity due to size of theater.
Capitol Theatre
Producing content online weekly. "Art on the Wall" exhibit finalizing exhibit. Possibility of
live streaming programming in the future.
Yakima Valley Museum
While also closed due to the pandemic, working on new exhibits. They will have a new
mountaineering exhibit with Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Rainier featured. William O.
Douglas essay contest winners announced. Red into Black auction going virtual this
year. The museum purchased many items from local businesses as a "thank you" for
their long-time support.

Collab Coffee Gallery "Calming Spaces" celebrating women of color and the arts.
