Meeting Notes
Members: Noel Moxley, Johnathan Heath Lambe, Melissa Labberton, David Rogers,
David Lynx
City Staff: Rosalinda Ibarra
Chair Noel Moxley convened the meeting at 3:37pm. Due to lack of a quorum, the
September 19, 2018 meeting minutes were not approved.
Review 11/14/18 notes: Additions to the November meeting notes were noted.
Budget Report: Moxley indicated the operating budget for the Arts Commission is
$10,000. In 2018, most of the expenses went to the Utility Box Wrap and Windows Alive
projects. There's currently a remaining balance of $8,139.11.
Windows Alive Update: Moxley shared artist renderings selected for the spring session
of Windows Alive displays. She also shared a newspaper article that mentioned the
project. The spring opening is Friday April 5t" at the Hotel Maison at 5:00 pm.
Commission vacancies: Three position vacancies exist; one is an Agency Rep for the
Seasons, another is a Community Rep position, and an Artist position. Applications are
available online and at the Clerk's office. Johnathan Lambe suggested they review the
Charter rules to consider expanding the role and purpose of the Arts Commission.
Utility Box Wrap Project update: David Lynx noted that Deborah Ann's piece needs to
be re -photographed to better fit the utility box for a second spot. The Commission
discussed several other artist pieces and concurred that putting out an open call may
gather more interest to fulfill a third spot. In the meantime, David Rogers was asked to
review the "Pollinators" exhibit to see whether one of those pieces will work.
Washington State Creative District update: Lambe provided an extensive update about
his participation and experience attending the workshop. After further discussion, the
Commission agreed that the next step is to form a sub -committee to setup the
framework and vision for the program. They suggested including John Cooper and
Lambe will recruit two other members to form the sub -committee. Lambe also shared
that he has taken on a new role with the Yakima Valley Museum, replacing Andy
Granitto. He envisioned Susan Duffin to continue representing the Museum on the Arts
Commission and he would like to transition from his Artist position into a representative
for Maker Space once his position expires.
