HomeMy WebLinkAboutArts Commission - Minutes 061919 (2)TakimaArts Commission Wednesday, June 19, 2019 City Hall — Second Floor Conference Room 3:30 p.m. Minutes Members: Noel Moxley, Susan Duffin, Teresa Pritchard, Melissa Labberton, Stephanie Clevenger, John Gasperetti, David Rogers, Heath Lambe, Charlie Robin, Jack McEntire City Staff: Randy Bonds Jr. Guest: Nathaniel Hull Noel Moxley convened the meeting at 3:30 p.m. No YPAC recording occurred. Review Previous Notes & Minutes— Reviewed and approved 11.14.18 and 3.20.19 notes. Pritchard moved, Gasperetti seconded, unanimously carried. Rotary Piano Project: Nathaniel Hull presented the Yakima Sunrise Rotary Painted Piano Project. The Arts commission has agreed to partner in promoting the event and connecting artists with the rotary. Current location for the pianos are the Mall, Glenwood Square, and YPAL. They will be installed in around a year and will be "semi -permanent" displays. Budget Report: Noel noted no change to $10,000/year budget Windows Alive Update: Jane Cooper was not in attendance, so no update given. Noted that next version is in the fall, launching the first Friday in October. Utility Box Wrap Project Update: New box installed on 18t" Street and Nob Hill, Randy will add it to the online map. Washington State Creative District Update: Heath has been working on the Creative District application and is now in stage 3 of the process. Needs input from City staff on some of the application requirements. Joan Davenport was recommended as a point of contact for these questions. He will also need a letter from the City endorsing the district. Woman Sculpture: Randy and Noel were emailed from an artist about placing an "important woman figure" statue. The commission would have to cover the cost of the bronze. This cost was in the neighborhood of $30,000 dollars. The commission decided this was cost prohibitive. Drag Me Out to the Arts: Heath presented a downtown art walk that is ran by Yakima Maker Space. Heath motioned to have $800 from the Arts Commission budget to help with the cost of running the program. Noel suggested that the amount be $600. Jack McEntire seconded that amendment to the motion. The motion was unanimously carried. L&1 Rulemaking Proposal EAP: Discussed the repercussions on small & medium businesses if the new changes to the exempt salaries take effect. Especially how it would affect the arts community. Group Updates: On August 7 & 8, the Washington State Arts Commission will be meeting in Yakima. They will conclude their meeting in Tieton at the latest mosaic. The Arts Commission would like to encourage the City Council to attend. The next meeting of the Yakima Arts Commission will be September 18th, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room on the second floor at City Hall.
