The Downtown Association of Yakima and the Apple Valley Kiwanis have approached the City about
authorizing five "Cruise the Ave" nights in June, July, August and September. Last year, the Yakima City
Council authorized one cruise night in September which was incredibly popular for the community. Both
applicants have agreed to pay half the officer costs involved in hosting the events.

A RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION NO. R -2015 -
authorizing open cruising events to be held on June 13, June 20,
July 11, August 8 and September 12 sponsored by Apple Valley
Kiwanis Club (June 20) and the Downtown Association of Yakima
(remaining dates).
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima ("City") has previously adopted ordinances
regulating cruising events, codified at Chapter 9.25 YMC; and
WHEREAS, the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club and Downtown Association of Yakima
have submitted an application and request to conduct a cruising events on Yakima
Avenue from 61h Street 71h Avenue, on Saturdays, June 13, June 20, July 11, August 8 and
September 12, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to be open to the public and
subject to the special event provisions of Chapter 9.70 YMC; and
WHEREAS, YMC 9.25.020 provides that the City Council may approve open
cruise events from time to time pursuant to adopted Resolution, subject to applicable
provisions of Chapter 9.70 YMC pertaining to special events; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that approval of the proposed
open cruising events to be held June 13, June 20, July 11, August 8 and September 12 as
described above, is in the best interests of residents of the City of Yakima and will
promote the general health, safety and welfare; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The open cruising event requested by the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club and
Downtown Association of Yakima to be held between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on
Saturday, June 13, June 20, July 11, August 8 and September 12 on Yakima Avenue
between 61h Street and 71h Avenue, is hereby approved, subject to and conditioned upon
the applicant's compliance with all applicable provisions of Chapter 9.70 YMC pertaining
to special events; now, therefore
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this day of May, 2015.
