The council has approved street names that probably
only favored a minority of the community. 1 believe it
leaves a glaring void in not showing the memory of one
of the most admired Presidents. Ronald Reagan.
I would propose "Reagan Blvd" be added to 1' street. It
wouldn't be necessary to eliminate 1' and business
could choose the name preferred. There are signal poles
with plenty of room for a sign next to the four
signals. It wouldn't be distracting and wouldn't
involve new poles. The cost would be reasonable and 1
would think service organizations and stores on 1"
would be contributors.
1 would suggest this would include the lighted
intersections from union Gap to the last light on N.1".
Thank you for consideration.

Subject: Suggestion to Rename/Amend Name of 1St Street to Reagan Blvd
Dear Mr. Gustafson,
I am in receipt of your written suggestion to rename or amend the name of 1st Street in Yakima.
Your letter proposed we add "Reagan Boulevard" to the name of 1st Street for the length of the
corridor within the City of Yakima.
Thank you for taking my call yesterday (April 7, 2015) so we had the chance to talk about this
idea. You indicated that you understood the concern of potential addresses on the same street
either noting "Reagan Blvd" or "First Street" for the approximately 400 businesses that may be
impacted by this modification, as well as the cost of the project. You graciously withdrew this
suggestion, but requested that the City Council consider future opportunities for project/site
naming in honor of this popular former president.
I will convey this request to the City Manager, Mayor and City Council. Thank you for taking
the time to write to us and your interest in our community.
Sincerely,
avenport. AlCl'
