WRIREAS, all- citizens regardless of race, creed or ethnicity deserve to be treated with
dignity, respect, compassion, and justice; and
PWLEREAS, each act of racism or discrimination is one too many; and
P3fE12EAS, racism can take many dfferent forms, including but not limited to
discrimination; personalattacks, including violence; written or verbal- threats or insults; and
damage to property, including graffiti; and
PWLEREAS, racism and discrimination hums everyone; and
PLEREAS, because racism hurts everyone, (YWCAs across the nation have taken a
stand against racism to raise peoples' consciousness that racism stiffe.xists in many forms; and
PWIE12EAS, the elimination of racism can only be achieved through the participation
of all- citizens in dialogue, reflection, and action; and
WHEREAS, our shared goal- is to advocate for increased awareness of the Casting and
negative effects of racism in our communities, institutions, and personal- relationships; and
PWiEREAS, the persistence and pervasiveness of racism divides our community and
keeps individuals from achieving success in education, economics, employment, and quality of
life.
WOW,, `ZJfE12ETORE, in recognition of the impact that racism has on the hearth and
well-being of our community, 1, Micah Cawley, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf
of the City Council, do hereby proclaim Friday, ApriI24, 2015 as
"(YWCA - STAND AGAINST RACISM DAY'
in the City of Yakima and encourage all- citizens to worktowards building racial equity
throughout the community.
