R- 2014 -149 A RESOLUTION authorizing the write -off of certain uncollectable parking citations and penalties for the City of Yakima. WHEREAS, attached is a listing of accounts recommended for write -off by the City of Yakima in connection with delinquent parking citations of the City These are past due parking citations of the general fund of the City that have been deemed ready for write -off due to: (1) account is past the statue of limitations for collecting such accounts, (2) bankruptcy, (3) death of debtor, and /or (4) account is otherwise uncollectible. It is recommended that these accounts be written -off (removed from the accounts receivable of the City) by City Council, now, therefore. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The attached "Parking Citation Write -off List" consisting of four parts (1) Statute of Limitations Report, (2) Bankruptcy Report, (3) Deceased Report, and (4) Voided Report, is hereby approved, and the past due accounts receivable, consisting of 187 citations totaling an original amount of $18,602 and applicable penalties are hereby written off and cancelled. For Meeting of: December 09, 2014 ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing certain parking citations to be written off SUBMITTED BY: Cindy Epperson, Director of Finance and Budget SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Attached is a Resolution authorizing the write -off of certain uncollectable parking citations. A total of 187 citations with an original face value of $18,602 and a write -off value of $23,664 (including penalties), representing a year of activity, are included for write -off with this resolution. Delinquent accounts are recommended for write -off for various reasons, including: 1) The Statute of Limitations (six (6) years or older) has been met; $17,913 2) Bankruptcy (discharge of debt); $510 3) Death of a debtor; None; and 4) Tickets deemed Void /Uncollectable; $490 A list detailing the citation number, license number, citation date, citation amount, late penalties and balances due is attached. The Resolution, if approved by Council, would authorize the write -off of these uncollectable accounts on the attached report. (Accounts were last written off in December of 2013.)
