Since we live in a culturally diverse Valley, we decided to feature Mexico's traditional celebration of the "The Eternal Cycle of Life" by inviting all our Valley's cultures to share their traditions in honoring the lives of those who have died: relatives, friends, special heroes and especially the "angelitos" (the children). Although this celebration is associated with the dead,, it is not morbid or depressing, but rather a period full of life, happiness, color, food, family and fun. Marigolds, the "flower of the dead," are an important symbol. Their scent is believed to attract the souls and draw them back. These exhibits feature imagery, relics, and personal stories of how communities join together to honor their departed loved ones and heroes. The Exhibit is an opportunity to reflect on our heritage, our ancestors and the purpose of our lives. In Modern times, the event blends the ancient Aztec traditions of a celebration of life, remembering the dead as they were when they were on this earth, and the Christian traditions of the Spanish (Catholic) Conquistadores. THE THEME FOR THIS EVENT IS "A CELEBRATION of the ETERNAL CYCLE OF LIFE" This year; the Exhibit will feature approximately thirty altars. The altar exhibit will be held at: 16 North 3rd St. Yakima. WA. 98901. Last year; we had an extremely successful event in downtown Yakima with over one thousand people visiting the exhibit; including over 250 local students who toured the exhibit. Please come and enjoy an evening of food, drink and lively entertainment.
