ITEM TITLE: Fire Department citizen recognition for Mike and Chelsey
Quaale

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
While driving to the Central Washington State Fair early in the afternoon of September 21,
2014, Mike and Chelsey Quaale of Yakima noticed a man in a yard whose clothing was on fire
as a result of a fire in his garage. Without hesitation, the Quaales stopped their vehicle to
assist. Chelsey went to the aid of the man — removing and extinguishing some of his burning
clothing. In the process, Chelsey herself sustained burn injuries to her leg and a finger. At the
same time, Mike used a nearby garden hose to extinguish the fire in the garage.
These quick and selfless actions taken by the Quaales on that afternoon effectively prevented
further burn injuries to the man, and stopped the growth of the garage fire.
