W3f!EREAS, domestic violence is a crime, affecting people of all races, ages, genders,
and income levels; and
PVWf!E REAS, one in four persons will experience domestic violence in their lifetime; and
WfiEREAS, more than 15 million children are exposed to domestic violence annually;
and
W7f!EREAS, this crime violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security and humanity
due to the systematic use of physical, emotional, seNual, psychological and economic control-
and
ontroland abuse; and
W'f!EREAS, the (YWCA, in partnership with state coalitions, national organizations
and service agencies, is committed to increasing public awareness of domestic violence and its
prevalence, and to eliminating it through prevention and education; and
WWf!EREAS, the Yakima City Council supports the (YWCA in its commitment to
eliminating domestic violence and ensuring a safe and healthy community for all our citizens;
NOW Da in recognition of the impact that domestic violence has on the
health and well-being of our community and its citizens, I Micah Cawley, Mayor of Yakima
and on behalf of the Yakima City Council do hereby proclaim the month of October 2014 as
"DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS .110W1 Jf„
in the City of Yakima and I reaffirm the commitment of the City of Yakima to reducing
violence in our homes, in our businesses, and on our streets. I urge all citizens to work together
to eliminate domestic violence from our community.
