HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/16/2010 16 Public Safety Education Supplies - Budget Amendment and Appropriation BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL • YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT Item No. For Meeting of February 16, 2010 ITEM TITLE: Consideration of an Ordinance Amending the 2010 Budget and making an appropriation in the 000-General Fund (Fire Department) budget to purchase additional public safety education supplies SUBMITTED BY: Charlie Hines, Fire Chief Cindy Epperson, Finance CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Dave Willson, Deputy Chief — 575-6060 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The City of Yakima Fire Department has received two generous donations from the Yakima Valley Employees Credit Union in the amount of $15,344 and Wal-Mart Corporation in the amount of $1,500. These monies were raised and donated with the intent of furthering public safety through education. The attached appropriation will increase the public education supply account in the 2010 Fire Department budget to match the $16,844 received from these donations. • Resolution Ordinance X Other (Specify) Contract Mail to (name and address): • Phone: Funding Source APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL: City Manager • STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Read the attached ordinance by title only at the February 16, 2010 Council Meeting. Pass ordinance after second reading at the March 2, 2010 Council Meeting. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: COUNCIL ACTION: • ORDINANCE NO. 2010- AN ORDINANCE amending the 2010 budget for the City of Yakima; and making appropriations of $16,844 within the 000 - General Fund for expenditure during 2010 to purchase additional public safety education supplies for the Fire Department. WHEREAS, the amount of,$16,844 must be appropriated within the 000 - General Fund for expenditure during 2010 to purchase additional public safety education supplies for the Fire Department, and WHEREAS, the expenditure is being funded by donations from the Yakima Valley Employees Credit Union in the amount of $15,344 and from Wal-Mart in the amount of $1,500 which were made for the purpose of enhancing the Fire Departments public safety education program, and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2010 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance would be required; and the City Council declares that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1: The amount of $16,844 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 000 - General Fund to the following accounts as a 2010 appropriation: Resources: Fire Department Donations-------- -------- 000-000-125-0000-36711-CNT --$16,844 Expenditures: Fire Department Public Safety Supplies--- 000-032-125-0000-52240-31P -- $16,844 Section 2: This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter: PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, signed and approved this 16 day of February, 2010.
