A RESOLUTION authorizing the "Ron Bonlender Memorial Cruise the Avenue Night,"
an open cruising event to be held on June 21, 2014, sponsored by
the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima ( "City ") has previously adopted ordinances
regulating cruising events, codified at Chapter 9.25 YMC; and
WHEREAS, the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club has submitted an application and
request to conduct a cruising event on Yakima Avenue from 6th Street 7 Avenue, on
Saturday, June 21, 2014, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to be open to the
public and subject to the special event provisions of Chapter 9 70 YMC; and
WHEREAS, YMC 9.25.020 provides that the City Council may approve open
cruise events from time to time pursuant to adopted Resolution, subject to applicable
provisions of Chapter 9 70 YMC pertaining to special events; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that approval of the proposed
open cruising event known as the "Ron Bonlender Memorial Cruise the Avenue Night," to
be held June 21, 2014 as described above, is in the best interests of residents of the City
of Yakima and will promote the general health, safety and welfare; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The open cruising event requested by the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club, known as at
"Ron Bonlender Memorial Cruise the Avenue Night," to be held between 6:00 p.m. and
10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 on Yakima Avenue between 6 Street and 7th
Avenue, is hereby approved, subject to and conditioned upon the applicant's compliance
with all applicable provisions of Chapter 9.70 YMC pertaining to special events; now,
therefore
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 17th day of June, 2014

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
This resolution would authorize an open cruise night on Yakima Avenue on Saturday, June 21st
from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. The cruise would be between 6th Street and 7th Avenue. This event was
held in 2013 and was peaceful and featured a wide variety of old and historic cars cruising
Yakima Avenue. The applicants have agreed to pay half of the police costs to ensure a safe
event.
