BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
AGENDA STATEMENT
Item No. 15.C.
For Meeting of: November 16, 2021
ITEM TITLE: 2022 -2027 Comprehensive Master Plan for Yakima Parks &
Recreation Community Survey Data Report
SUBMITTED BY: Ken Wilkinson, Parks & Recreation Manager 509 576 6416
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
A community wide survey is a major component of completing the 2022 - 2027 Comprehensive
Master Plan for Yakima Parks & Recreation. The Comprehensive Master Plan serves as a guide
for the Parks & Recreation Commission and staff for the next 5 to 10 years.
Surveys were sent to 5,000 homes within Yakima city limits. Individuals could complete the
survey and mail it back at no cost or could complete the survey online. In addition to the mailing,
Parks & Recreation staff hosted a booth at 7 community events. The events were the Yakima
Downtown Farmers Market, Miller Park and MLK Jr. Park Viva La Musica concerts and a Franklin
Park concert. Survey contact cards that included a QR code, which allowed people to scan with
their phone and easily complete the survey online, were provided to people at the events. Hard
copies of the survey were also handed out along with Summer Program Guides, maps of the
park locations, and various brochures about upcoming programs and events. A total of 695
surveys were returned.
The attached report is the combined data from the online surveys and the mail in surveys. This
information was shared with Yakima Parks & Recreation Commission members on Wednesday,
October 13, 2021 .
